The first of the "happy ending" plots we'll be looking at is the classic rising plot, sometimes referred to as the Rags to Riches plot:
Rags to riches is the polar opposite to the first plot we talked about - the falling plot. It is your typical fairy tale plot type, your typical success story.
The rising plot is designed to make people feel good about themselves - to give them hopes and dreams; to reassure them that everything works out in the end.
Can you think of any stories that match this plot?
There are a lot out there, especially if you think about fairy tales. Going into some of the Grimm brothers' lesser known tales will really help you gain an understanding of this plot. Some ideas to look at are The Poor Miller's Boy and the Cat, as well as more well-known tales such as Cinderella. However, the Cinderella story isn't as simple as this, and I will explain why in the next blog post!
For now, try writing yourself an inspiring story where your character goes from rags to riches. Depending on your style, you may want to try a more traditional tale, or you could write a modern day piece. Maybe your character builds up internet fame or does something amazing for a charity, maybe their success is more emotional - you could write a story about someone receiving counselling, or someone finally being able to get over a traumatic event and finding happiness again. The possibilities truly are endless with this plot!
Happy writing!
