The next prompts we will be looking at are abstract concepts. These will be really helpful ideas to have in your notebook as they are often feelings or concepts that are hard to describe. Once you have the groundwork in your book, you can manipulate them for use in future work!
As always, feel free to think of your own prompts for this if they are particularly relevant to your style or what you are currently writing, but don't forget to challenge yourself by doing exercises outside of your comfort zone to really push yourself!
1. Love
2. Hate
3. Bordom
4. Excited
5. Fear
6. Desire
7. Peace
8. Confusion
9. Grief
10. Disgust
After describing the feeling, consider what memories these emotions trigger in you. What age you were. What specifically happened to make you feel that.
If you are using this exercise for a specific character, consider what might make them feel these emotions - these will not be the same as your memories.
You might also associate these concepts with a specific colour or taste, an action, or a time of day or year. But don't make these too abstract - remember not everyone has the same memories, so make sure your link is strong enough so that it will make sense to someone else!
Happy writing!
