Short Story

This week we'll be discussing the short story. Short stories are longer than flash fictions: they have a more developed plot, but can still be read in one sitting.

We are going to look at what a short story is and how to write a good one, as well as how it differs from other types of story.

For now, have a look at some of my posts under the writing prompts tab. These should get you started and you will probably naturally write a short story anyway. I would suggest writing for about half an hour, but of course don't stop if you think you can continue.

It might also be helpful to do some prompts from the writing features tab, such as characterisation, plot and speech. It might also be helpful to consider which person and tense you feel most comfortable writing in. First person present is obviously the most immersive, but third person past is what I tend to use.

Happy writing!
